There is a Dutch record of a D. A. Oehlers in Menado in 1941. His wife is named as E. Kawalak. It is not known whether this is David Alfred (b. 1885), one of his sons, or some other person.

Suson Bevelander related what her mother (Elisabeth Oehlers) told her : “One day Charly climbed a tree, fell out of it and died. Betsy was very sad and became ill. She died when Lizzy was 5 years old”. “Her family was very wealthy, they were Dutch traders, owners of a lot land, sailing Descendants of Heinrich OEHLERS 19 October 2008 vessels, her grandfather even owned a great part of the Ternate Island and was therefore called “King of Ternate” back in 1858”. “David managed the lands and properties for the Dutch family. According to my mother he was a good landlord, treated the people who worked for him with respect.
